How does the pro-life movement react to the Murder of Dr. Tiller? At what point do they see that they are preaching their morals/values out rank those of others? At what point do they see that it is unconstitutional to impose their values on others to limit freedoms. They preach and say they are carrying out Gods will. Dont they realize they will reach and manipulate only the lowest of intellect and lightest of will? Those of any mental capacity will reject their use of religion as a club for with which to bash in the skulls of the infidels? Dont they realize they sound like Ahmadinejad or Bin Laden when they spout off like that? Or would they prefer Bin Laden to liberals because atleast Bin Laden is a nice religious boy, even though he is one of those heathens. How does this maniac justify "eye for an eye" when he commits an act of murder? Will he be absolved in the eyes of the lord? or will he just rot in a pine box? What I know for sure is that a man was murdered. A man who has stood up to the intimidation of right wing freak shows since the late 70's. The guy has taken mass protest, he had been shot in the arms, his place of business bombed (an act of terrorism in the name of god, sound familliar?) and finally, he is fataly shot, in the atrium to a sanctuary. I'm going to make my statement; The only reason a man has to get fired up about abortion is to protect the rights of women, all other reasons, such as, abomination in the eyes of god, destruction of fetus, need not apply, because, Dude, you're not a woman, so you have no right to go there. Men have no right to be in the abortion debate until "viability" which would be third trimester. So the late term abortion debate should welcome the fathers input. I'd like to see this murderer tortured and beheaded at the new Yankee stadium during half time of the superbowl his head on a pike on the steps to the capitol building. Your thoughts?

Cape Canaveral - Jetty park in Cocoa Beach. Love watching the big, big liners going out in the cut and love fishing off the jetty.

Love the title. LOL!!

Tell me what is your favorite National Park for Camping

Much better in the times we are in.

Loved the change on the Gay Marriage/fishing title too!

We need the humor and fun for a change!

Why its ok to murder abortion Doctors?

Your question assumes facts not in evidence-- that it is ok to murder an abortion doctor.

It is not ok to murder an abortion doctor, and I don't know a single pro-lifer who would say that. Not even one. There may be such people, but they would have to be miniscule in number and strongly renounced by the vast majority of pro-lifers, and certainly all pro-lifers that I know.

I'm willing to continue the discussion if you'd like. Just let me know what further thoughts you'd like clarified.

Its not a question Michael. Lets just say that a catchy title gets more readers, more readers more votes, more votes MORE WORLD DOMINATION.

Its not ok to murder anyone who has been born on this planet. Noone. I know one pro-lifer who thinks it is ok, he is the one (im guilty of presuming guilt but...) who is accused with killing the good doctor. I know the vast majority of pro-lifers dont think its ok to kill doctors who perform abortions, but they want to put them out of business. They want to stop their work. They want to infiltrate the lives of american citizens, and impose their moral code on everyone. I'd like to have more liberty and less laws.

Feel free to pick thru my statements/questions above and we can have a go.

Greg, I think its just better this way, that way if someone says something that really pisses you or me or anyone off, you just switch topic and talk about something everyone can agree on... though there could be some debate about camping as well...

It just makes sense to me to have an escape hatch.

I know the vast majority of pro-lifers ... want to put them out of business.

Yes, that is correct. It is based on a firm belief that an unborn child is a unique person, separate and distinct from the child's mother. This belief is often philosophical or spiritual in its basis, but it is important to note that the oposite position is also usually based in the same sort of things. That is the very reason debate on the subject gets so heated-- both sides are committed to a belief system.

It is worth noting that the pro-abortion rights side also wants to stop the work of pro-life organizations and impose their moral code on everyone. See, both sides usually dig in deep because the basis of their view is entrenched in their total belief system. To change views usually requires a complete rewrite of their belief systems, which is why it is somewhat uncommon.

As a person with very strong libertarian leanings, I also want more liberty and less laws. But, I would not want to legalize the indiscriminate killing of a distinct person and individual. You'd probably agree with this statement: "Your rights end where someone else's rights begin." To see the other side, recognize that the belief system of pro-lifers grants those rights to the unborn because they view them as "someone else" than the mom.

Also, just to put it out there, I think you'll find that I'm very consistent with my application. I would not defend killing a child inside the womb for any reason that would not also apply outside the womb. Therefore, I would defend abortion in one instance only-- to save the life of the mother. In that instance, it would be an act of self-defense, which by my belief system, would be a moral act.

Would you like to know more?

        Hey Mikey Likes it!

I cannot disagree when a person comes to a logical conclusion, but let me correct one of your statements. see in bold below

It is worth noting that the pro-abortion rights side also wants to stop the work of pro-life organizations and impose their LACK OF moral code on everyone.

The prime difference is that pro-choice people want to avoid legislating away the choices and rights of the indivdual where the anti-abortion crowd wants to impose their moral code. Which brings me to my next counter point:

"Your rights end where someone else's rights begin."

        Agreed.

        But

        When does someone else begin?

This, the root of the debate, is in fact where the two sides base their opinion on a belief or lack of belief system.

One further clarification: I do NOT believe in science, I trust in the repeatable findings of my collegues, I trust my fellow man to present results of their findings. One does not have a faith in science, its a faith in man. And Man exists.

I would love for you to impart me with as much knowledge as you can spare while we remain on this rock.

One reason the abortion debate will never be settled is the two sides are involved in different arguments. One side is arguing for the rights of the woman, the other is arguing for the rights of the fetus. On top of that, religion is brought into it. I don't think there will ever be any kind of consensus.

        When does someone else begin?

Great question, and one that will be firmly based in a person's belief system, just like I described above.

My belief system, which is largely based on spiritual truths, says that someone else begins from conception, when they are "woven together" in the womb, and "fearfully and wonderfully made."

There is no end to the debate when belief system gets to be involved. But somehow the religious have framed science as a "belief system".

        There is no end.

Becuase there is not subjective evidence on when a "person" begins and it's all based on personal belief systems. Therefore, it is a personal moral decision and should be left to the individual. I don't particularly agree with abortion, but that is my personal veiw-point. (I'm a male and I don't believe men should be saying to much in this debate anyway.)

I flew into denver saw the rockies, then into Gillette WY, shot over to Buffalo WY and trekked up into the BigHorn Range... For a Boy who grew up in Joisey, never higher than "This Car Climbed Mt. I visited Colorado a couple of years ago. Flew into Denver, visited RMNP, Colorado Nat'l Monument, Arches, Canyonlands, Mesa Verde, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It is so flat where I live, and nothing but pine trees. I love the ocean, but when I vacation I prefer the Rockies and the Southwest.

Be sure to see the Tetons if you go to Yellowstone.

Eddie once again your article makes me giggle. Killing an abortion doctor does the anti-abortion side no good. It simply proves there are several extremists (which they all claim they are not) involved in their movement. Medusa, I will say, that, I only am aiming for giggles, debates rage on for generations and we can only do what we can to deal with the stress. I deal with stressfull situations by trying to be funny, and those who find my twisted little sense of humor in my ramblings are those I expect to elevate me to someday rock star status.

I am going to Glacier in July. I'm staying in a hotel though. I prefer to camp where the animals aren't big enough to eat me. ;-)

I have seen an adult female bison who had been laying down for a week, sick with worms, take 6 rounds of .357 mag at point blank to the cranium only to wake up in the back of the pickup truck 3 miles down the road on the way to the dog food plant.....

The point? I could only imagine how much punishment a grizzly could take. Even with a side arm, a shotgun, and i'd even be squeamish with an M60.... I'd be reserving a Cabin!

Great story about my encounter with a black bear at the Delaware Water Gap State Park in NW NJ... but Ill save that for the "Should we still be an ally to Israel or tell me your most embarrasing moment in the woods"

No, but I watched that crazy guy up in Alaska. He made friends with the grizzlies, and they still ate him.

The biggest animals at Cape Lookout are raccoons. They keep me awake at night, but they probably won't eat me.

Well, the park is undoubtedly the most beautiful place I've ever seen. They have points they call "scenic outlooks." That's a joke; the whole place is a scenic outlook. I took 800 pictures there!

Walking the trails, however, was an exercise in paranoia. At the start of every trail head is a sign that begins "Warning: your safety is not assured..." and proceeds to warn you that there are bears, cougars, and other hungry animals out there, just waiting for a snack to walk by. They recommend not hiking alone, or at night, wearing bells to warn bears of your presence and carrying pepper spray for self defense. Bears were something you usually encountered by accident; round a corner and bump into one, or as happened to someone while I was there, trip over a bear cub, which activates the territorial defense instinct in mom.

Still bears are omnivores, and given a choice between the hard work it takes to catch and consume you, or the ease with which a handful of berries can be obtained, they'll choose the latter just because they're as lazy as humans. Mountain lions, on the other hand, are another matter--they're strictly carnivores;they see you as lunch with a back pack; they will stalk you, and they're cats, so they're accomplished stalkers. That had me so paranoid, I stopped every 1,000 feet or so and made sure nothing was following me.

The bells that are supposed to warn the bears appears to be minimally effective, as evidenced by the exchange I heard between two rangers, referring to black bears (grizzlies) and brown bears, the smaller ones.

"What's the difference between black bear scat and brown bear scat?"

"The black bear scat has bells in it."

My husband and I took about 800 pictures in Utah last year. Zion, Bryce, Hwy 12, and Monument Valley. Drove 1100 miles and took a picture of dam near every rock in the state.

We aren't much for hiking, and I wouldn't be much of a challenge for a bear to catch. (My husband can run faster than me.) I think we'll try to stay close to the car. LOL

It is NOT okay to murder anyone. Are you advocating the murder of American citizens on some extremist's morality grounds, or am I missing something here? I think that the court system should deal with this killer like it does any other murdering thug. I also think that groups and news bobble heads that targeted this doctor are culpable. You'd think that these people would have a come to Jesus moment and reconsider their tactics, but, I'm not holding my breath on that. Billo's disgusting program last night was abhorrent. The guy needs to shut his @!$%#ing pie hole and go back to snarking about the Obamas or some other person who threatens his inflated ego.

My favorite place to camp, is the hotel closest to the campground. Because I have a tendency to pitch my tent in the spot, where the camp's run off will go right thru the tent. Inevitably it will rain the night that I go camping.

I agree, kj. My idea of roughing it is sitting on a towel on the beach, rather than lounging in a cabana chair. 28 years ago, a mouse thought it would be great sport to chew holes in our tent while stored in our garage for the winter. That tent was the first and last tent we owned and it is, thankfully, now rotting somewhere in a Milwaukee landfill. RIP tent!

He may have been deluded but probably thought he was saving babies. I don't know if you've read some of the things about that. Sometimes for late term abortions the babies are trying to breathe. The nurses have wondered about what happens with it since other babies they need to save. They need to actually kill the baby or fetus they would call it then. That is from what I have read. I have to say I was for abortions before reading that. I am not saying that what he did was ok. I think if they are going to have an abortion they should have it in time.

I become skiddish when it comes to the late term ordeal... I have seen cases where a woman doesnt know she's preggo till the 7th month but 9 times out of ten... you miss a cycle, you go and buy a preggo test... You ought to be able to take care of what you need to do with the decision making process in 2-3 months time before you are dealing with a viable potential life. When it is a debate over a zygote, i'd just as soon fight for the right to life of the ant colony trying to eat away at the faming of my house.....

I think there are more of these cases than people realize because most women are not out there on the news programs discussing their very personal physical and emotion problems with a pregnancy. These things should be private and we should not have to evaluate each one on a case by case situation...en masse.

Reds, ty for stopping by, and I am sorry about writing my last novel on your page.... but that woman had me going!!!!

Anyway, after I posted this I knew i was opening the can of worms... Let me just say that its so much easier to have this debate when you take the "late term" out of the equation, and its my feeling that if the choice movement is to move forward (or move on) that it needs to go in steps.

I think that all procedures to help a living woman should be on the table, but its a hard pill to swallow, the late term abortions are where you really do get into the debate about "is this a living being or not" where when you are talking about a cluster of cells, you are in a whole different ballgame.

But I want to clarify that I am not advocating for the status quo regarding late term, only that it truly is a debate worth having as opposed to destroying a zygote which to me should be a non-starter.
